Ocean (1995)

The seats and decking of the clinker-built boat have been stripped out, leaving a shape suggesting a stripped carcass.  Into this body is poured a shallow lake of milk.  I wanted the bodily suggestions of milk, not just a near-white surface.  Onto the inside of the boat is projected a (real photographic) vault of stars, with a full-moon added.  Inside and outside have inverted and the mind projects the universe out again.

(although the milk has a preservative added it must be changed twice per week or a skin forms. An almost completely dark exhibition space is required.)
